Taylor Swift’s political endorsement resulted in a peculiar offer.
Following the Sept. 10 presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, the Grammy winner spoke out about the upcoming election, signing off her post with “Taylor Swift, Childless Cat Lady”—a nod to President Trump’s running mate J.D. Vance’s previous comments.
Which prompted Elon Musk to step in with an odd proposal.
“Fine Taylor, you win,” the dad of 12 posted on X Sept. 11. “I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life.”
While Swift hasn’t acknowledged Musk’s offer, she did have more than a few words to share after the debate.
"Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight," she began a statement shared to social media. "If you haven't already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most. As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country."
She went on to address the recent AI images of herself "falsely endorsing Donald Trump's presidential run” and AI’s ability to “spread misinformation.”
"It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter," the 34-year-old, who dates Travis Kelce, continued. "The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth. I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election."
The Midnights artist also encouraged her followers to make sure their voices are heard in November.
“I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice,” she concluded, noting she’d be sharing voter registration resources. “Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make.”
The following day, Trump spoke out about Swift’s endorsement, telling Fox News he prefers her friend Brittany Mahomes, who is married to Patrick Mahomes.
"Well I actually like Mrs. Mahomes much better," Trump said during his Sept. 11 appearance. "If you want to know the truth. She's a big Trump fan. I was not a Taylor Swift fan. It was just a question of time. You couldn't possibly endorse [Joe] Biden. But she's a very liberal person. She seems to always endorse a Democrat and she'll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace."
"But I like Brittany," he continued. "I think Brittany is great. She's a big MAGA fan. She's the one I like much better.”
